Day 17 — September 21
Yesterday was mostly a driving day as we headed toward our next destination, about seven hours away—Niagara Falls.
Before we got on the road, we found a charming little diner that took us back to the 1950s. We both ordered a short stack of pancakes and enjoyed the nostalgia of the place. See pics below.
After breakfast, we explored the Lake George Village area. It offered a great view of Lake George and gave us some interesting things to photograph. See pics below.
After driving around the village, we pulled over and parked with a relaxing view of Lake George in front of us.
We were waiting for the road to Prospect Mountain to open. It opened at 10 a.m., and we had about a 45-minute wait.
Prospect Mountain rises above Lake George to a height of 2,030 feet, and we had heard the view from the top was beautiful.
The road to the top of Prospect Mountain is called Veterans Memorial Highway. There is a $10-per-vehicle entry fee, but we got in free. Why? Because Monday through Friday, senior citizens age 62 and older and veterans—active duty and retired military—are given free entry.
Since I checked two boxes—senior citizen and retired military—I thought maybe they would give me $10.
The gate attendant didn’t see it that way.
Oh well, it didn’t hurt to try.
Below are some pics from the top of Prospect Mountain overlooking Lake George, New York. It was cloudy, so the photos aren’t as vivid as they might have been if the sun had been shining, but the view was still worth the drive to the top.
Our drive to Niagara Falls, New York, was uneventful, with nothing along the way that made us want to stop and take a photo to share.
But today will be different.
Today, we’re going to see Niagara Falls!
